The Novice by
Trudi Canavan
My rating:
4 of 5 stars
The Novie was much better than the first book. It was worth all the waiting! This book was much more exciting. I like that we get to know the characters a little better, and also the new characters we get introduced too. What I don't like so much, is that nobody seems to like Sonea. And yes - I get the whole idea, that nobody likes her because she's from the slums and that, but you know... just because you're from the houses, you don't have to have the same opinion as everybody else from the houses. I mean - just because you grew up in the houses, doesn't mean you can't think Sonea has the right to be there. The other noviceses either don't like her, or they don't care about her. Nobody actually like her, except Rothen and Dannyl of course - and then there's this one boy, whom quickly desides otherwise.
Then there's all the attacts from Regin and his followers. I mean - DO SOMETHING SONEA FOR CHRIST SAKE! It really annoys me, that she just lets it happen. I know her reasons for it, for I still think she should do something... But other than that I absolutely loved it! Really - its such a good book. I now like Sonea more, and the whole High Lord thing - I just think its so exciting!
The writer has done a really dangerous thing, in this book. She has written not only from different kind of perspectives, but also from different kind of places, which not always works - but it does in this book! It works perfectly. When I hear about Dannyl, Sonea, Lorlen or Rothen - I never get then feeling, that I don't want to here about one of the person - one rather than the other - no, I quickly find every persons perspective entertaining, which is a really important thing. I loved it! :)

MoviereviewsPosted by Carmen Bie 2010-06-12 23:31:32Wow guys, first of all I have to apologise for the lack of posts lately. I've just been so stressed out about what going to happen to me next year + I've been a little distractet by Lost. Yeah, in about eight episodes time, I've seen all Lost episodes there is to see, which I am very excited about! I hope the season final will be awesome!
Anyway... That's obviously not what this post is about. Just got back from the Movies, where I watched Sex and the City 2. To be honest, I don't know what people are talking about. I don't think its that bad AT ALL. Yeah, in the beginning of the movie I thought "wtf is happenin' here? the gays are getting married? That is SO against the tv-show!!!!" + a couple of other things that was just way out of order - and if I must say it: a little flat. But then the movie really started with the luxuriosity and the problems to be sorted out with a little help from the girls, and I just... I loved it. Not at all with the level of the series, but it was not bad at all. Before I watched it, I was a little concerned with there being no sex or the city in the trailer. Well if I have to be honest there was neither - or at least not much - in the movie either, but I don't think it hurt the movie too bad, maybe a little. There wasn't that much of almost-awkward sex scenes, which was okay I guess - but then again, that is was Sex and The City is all about, so maybe the producers should remember that, if there's coming another one, which there probably is going to be, even though I really can't see what that film should be about, since... like... everything has happened already.
I give the movie 3,5 out of 6 stars. So its not my favourite movie, but its definitely worth watching.

The Magicians' Guild by
Trudi Canavan
My rating:
3 of 5 stars
The plot is well thought. Trudi Canavan really knows her world through-and-through, which is very important when you read fantasy novels. I love the way the book is written. You know - for someone like me, who's first language is not english, is very easy to read, and just... nice. Its just nice!
There was never exactly a point where I thought the book what boring, but I had a little trouble getting trough it, 'cause its very lengthy, which can be annoying at times. I mean after a couple of hundred pages, you would like the magicians to find Sonea, whether its a good thing for her or not, 'cause its just not that interesting to here about her hiding anymore.
I really like the characters of the book. Especially Dannyl, Rothen and Cery. Maybe I would like Sonea to be a little different, but I'm sure I'll grow to love her, when I'm finished with the trilogy.
The book may be lengthy, but the ending was extraordinary! I really want to know what happens next! Luckily for me, I have the next book in the series on my bookshelf!
